We are trying to get rid of TVS on the LIN bus of S912ZVML to reduce BOM costs even more. But is there any risks that doing it will fail ESD tests. Is the chip itself capable to sustain such harsh environment. What’s your suggestion?
Thanks!
Hi Madhu,
It depends on your EMC (ESD) requirements.
The S12ZVML LIN was tested and pass through EMC test up to 6kV with Human Body Model (HBM) discharge.
Additionally, we specify also endurance against 6kV discharge according to IEC61000-4-2 with and without 220pF capacitor (R=330, C=150pF).
If your requirements are higher than this 6kV level, you will probably have to use external protection circuit like TVS.
I hope it helps you.
Have a great day,
Radek
