Hi,

I don't understand the function of BCTL and BCTLC pins on S12ZVC, I got a description about it is "BCTL is the ballast connection for the on chip voltage regulator. It provides the base current of an external BJT (PNP) of the VDDX and VDDA supplies.", does it for power saving feature when MCU wait mode? does it necessary pin to provide VDDX and VDDA power with on chip voltage regulator?

Thank you,

Snaku

Hello Snaku

Do you really mean S12ZVC or S12ZVMC? Whichever you mean, the information is provided in the S12ZVM-Family RM, which supports S12ZVMC parts.

The BCTL and BCTLC pins are optionally used to generate VDDX and VDDC supplies using external PNPs

Referring to S12ZVM-Family RM V1.4 Figure 1-16....

The BCTL option, when enabled, ensures that the current flows from the VRBATP to VDDX via the external PNP and not internally. This reduces the internal power dissipation of the device, thereby reducing the impact of current on the device temperature. In this case, power dissipation calculations can use VDDX-VSS.

The device can also be used without the external BCTL option, in which case VDDX is sourced by the internal regulator. In this case then the device current flows from the VSUP pin through the internal regulator and internal logic to VSS. In this case, power dissipation calculations can use VSUP-VSS.

The BCTLC is intended to be used to supply an external CANPHY, without the associated current flowing through the S12Z device.

In both cases the user can select internal or external configuration using the  CPMUVREGCTL register bits.

The BCTL, BCTLC pin features are not related to power saving in Wait mode.

VDDX can be supplied by the internal regulator, or external PNP as explained above.

In both cases the user must provide the VSUP supply voltage and let the internal VREG generate VDDX (with or without PNP).

VDDA must be connected to VDDX, externally on the application board.

Hi DPB,

I am studying the S12ZVC which not yet formal release.

I feel more comprehend the function of these two pins, it very helpful to me.

Thanks for your explanation,

Snaku
