What is the MC9s12E256/128/64 for?
Is it a 3phase motor controller, which would explain its high resolution 3pairs PWM, but no CAN or easy up-grade to XGATE part?
Should we move to a DSP type device?

We use it a general purpose micro (E256) as it has a good number of I/O and it accepts 3V which for us was a major requirement a long with SPI, SCI, ADC and DAC but we didn't need any CAN. Most of the micros have these but the number of each varies between device families. A couple more SPI would have been nice.

Hi,

Looks more like a general purpose than specialized.
There's one reference manual for a Uninterruptible Power Supply using S12E.

CAN is readily added with the Bosch CC770.
The enhanced PWM is also found on the flexray'd 9S12XF, suggesting it has a automotive use. Guessing, could it be for starter/generator?
