GPIO Problem about 9s12dg128b

I'd like to use PORTH as GPIO for the general 8-bit digital data input.  Is it enough if I only define the Port H Data Direction Register (DDRH)?

I would write 0 to DDRH, wait at least 2 cycles, then read PORTH.
