Hello.

Application is gateway of BCM.

According to datasheet of S912XDP512MAL, It has 5ch(CAN) of MCU.

I'd like to use 4ch. with high speed(500kbps).

Does it affect to performance of MCU?

Hi,

well, it is logical that the number of peripherals used affect the MCU (i.e. CPU) performance.

Higher the number of peripherals, higher the performance, which means more current draw i.e. more power consumption.

You can check the MC9S12XDP512 datasheet where the Appendix A.1.10 provides supply currents for several peripheral sets (Table A-10. Run and Wait Current Characteristics).

Thanks for your reply.

I meant overload of MCU, not power consumption.

When I used to gateway in MC9S12XDP512, I worry about overload of MCU.

Thanks.

I don't think you will overload the MCU with 5-channel CAN. You should use a co-processor - the XGATE which is used to handle data transfers between peripherals and internal memory. Therefore the main core interrupt load would be lowered. The peripheral interrupts should be handled by XGATE.

Also the MCU load depends on how many other peripherals you use in the application, but in the end it's hard to believe it will be overloaded. Anyhow, you should perform some tests.

Thanks.

I use only 4channel CAN Interface for gateway. I don't use ohter peripheral.

In this case, does it cause overload of MCU ?

No, it would not cause the MCU overload.
