Which eMMC for ls102x can advice?

Hi,

We used MTFC8GLDDQ-4M IT ( LBGA, 100-ball, 14x18x1.4 ) eMMC in our ls1020 based design (as boot source also).

But MTFC8GLDDQ-4M IT is EOL now unfortunately.

It looks like MTFC8GACAEDQ-AAT is the single choice for replacement, but it has 5.0 MMC Interface.

Is MTFC8GACAEDQ-AAT compatible with ls102x or not?

Can you suggest any replacement for MTFC8GLDDQ-4M IT (8GB or more, LBGA, 100-ball, 14x18x1.4 )?

Tnx,

Andrey.

Hello Andrey,

on eMMC components, most manufacturers moved from 100 ball BGA to 153 ball BGA type parts as these are much more common. You will find numerous suppliers having these.

If you can, please modify your design to use 153 ball eMMC in the future. This will relax your supply situation a lot.

However, eMMC mostly just support a temperature range from -25 to 85°C.

I work at the specialzed distributor Memphis Electronic. We distribute only memory-devices such as DRAM or Flash, but carry almost all manufacturers. For our industrial customers worldwide who very often need eMMC with -40 to 85°C we decided to build up a large inventory of Hynix brand eMMCs from 8GB up to 64GB. These all come in 153 ball BGA , but they support the full industrial temperature range of -40 to 85°C and they are immediately available from our stock!

Regards,

Thorsten

Hi Thorsten,

We can't move our desing to use 153 ball eMMC at the moment unfortunately.

May be in the future design.

Thanks for suggestion anyway.

Andrey.

The MTFC8GLDDQ-4M can be used on the LS1021a board.

Look at the following documents:

https://www.datalight.com/solutions/technologies/emmc/emmc-feature-comparison-by-version

and

https://community.nxp.com/docs/DOC-332187

and

https://www.jetone.com.tw/uploadfiles/327/datasheet/KSI/ksi-emmc-upsi.pdf

The eMMC 5.1 devices are back compatible to the eMMC 4.2. The DS signal is not used for the eMMC 4.5 controller.

Have a great day,
Pavel Chubakov
