Does the MSC8256 require an OS?

Hello, I would like to know if the MSC8256 DSP require an OS? I have been using the TigerSharc DSP from ADI for a long time and have decided to find a better DSP. I have looked the high-end DSP's from TI but they are very complex and require a lot of time to come up to speed on the hardware and software development. The DSP's that I did look at from TI could run without an OS but I get the impression that would be a painful experience. I thought I better look at the DSP's from Freescale and only the floating-point DSP's. I would like to know if it is required to use an OS on the MSC8256 DSP and if one does not use an OS will it be a painful experience?

Thanks,

joe

Hi,

No, the OS is not a must for MSC8256, and the experience is not painful.

Using CodeWarrior you can choose to create a project with our without OS (here the OS is Freescale SDOS), if choosing without OS you can get a wizard template.

Any question during the evaluation you can try to search help in Freescale community.
