I want to know if the MPC860TZQ80D4 can be replaced by another processor (Same Fit & Function, Pin-for-Pin Equivalent) other than the MPC860TVR80D4.

MPC860T may be also replaced by MPC860P, which is a superset of entire MPC860 family.

MPC860T and MPC860P are pin compatible and functionally identical, the difference between MPC860T and MPC860P is only in larger cache size for MPC860P. For example, MPC860PVR80D4.

Dear Sir,

Thank you for your emails.

Please let me know how about the LIFECYCLE (Active, NRFND, obsolete ...) and the LIFETIME (no-risk, medium-risk, high-risk) of the MPC860T and MPC860P? According to you during how long again can I find these parts on the market before NXP stop to manufacture them so I can’t find them on the market?

Best Regards.

The status of all currently orderable MPC860 partnumers is "Not recommended for a new design". This means the device is mature, but available for ordering and currently not announced to End Of Life. You can continue using this device is your existing designs, but using this device is a new design is not recommended.

For this moment we do not have plans to announce this device to End Of Life, so there is no information about EOL date.

Dear Alexander,

Thank you for your reply.

My problem is this: we have an electronic card developed 15 years ago and that we have to renovate and guarantee for 5 more years, in accordance with our contract with our client. Knowing that the MPC860 is NRFND, we want to replace it now, to avoid it being EOL and not available in the market meanwhile. Can you advise me about a replacement for the MPC860 that we can buy?

Is it possible that NXP will develop a product that will replace the MPC860 after it is EOL?

In your opinion after how long are you about to announce that he is EOL?

Best regards.

1. The status "Not recommended for a new design" means the device is quite old and currently reached its guarantied longevity period, but still in production and not announced to End of Life. We do not have plans to announce this device to End of Life, so I can not say when the device will be announced to End of Life, and therefore, how long it will be available for ordering. Based on our previous experience, when the device is announced to EOL, a special Product Discontinuance Notice is issued, where it is is specified how long it will be available for ordering ("Last Order Date") and how long it will be in production ("Last Shipping Date"). Typically, our customers have at least 1 year to place last orders and 1 additional year to take ownership.

>> Can you advise me about a replacement for the MPC860 that we can buy?

All devices from the MPC860 family have the same "Not Recommended for New design" status. There is no exact pin-to-pin compatible device, which has "Active" status. All more recent devices from other families with "Active" status will require board re-design and software modifications.

>> Is it possible that NXP will develop a product that will replace the MPC860 after it is EOL?

We have a lot of Networking Processors in our Networking Products portfolio. You can select a suitable device according to our design needs or submit us your design requirements, so we will be able to suggest a device for your needs. But, in any case it will require board re-design and software modifications. In case if you mean exact pin-to-pin replacement, than - we do not have plans to develop a product which will be exact replacement for MPC860.

>> In your opinion after how long are you about to announce that he is EOL?

I do not have answer this question, sorry. As I already said, we do not have such plans. Typically, the device remains in production until we have market demand for it.
