Is it a single incident? How often does it happen? Do you bend the pins before assembling?
It is industry standard package. We had no problems with breaking the pins. If you got multiple fails, you may report CQI to the distributor who supplied this product.
BFT52 is provided in SOT32 package with iron nickel leads. It is not available with copper pins.
