PN5190 for long-range use case

Hello Team,

Since the PN5190 has a strong output, does this allow us to wakeup\communicate with tags for a longer distance than other NXP readers products available?

I am trying to achieve reading ~20 tags at 30-35 cm distance long with a big antenna on the reader side (can be 25cm2) and tags will have a class 1/2 type of antenna, does PN5190 suit this job?

secondly, if you can share any reference design and app notes (if available) on reading tags at long range, it would be great?

Thanks in advance

Kind regards,

Shai

@Kan_Li Hello,

Thank you for your reply, I've noticed most of the video talked on 45x45mm antenna design (which provides reading tags up to 10cm).

I am looking for any reference design and an app note that explains how to design a large NFC antenna (of the reader side) and learn what is the throwback of this subject and its effects on reading tags.

My customer starting to develop a new product that reads 20-30 tags inside a small box, Could you please advise me back if NXP has done any reference design with a big antenna and if there are relevant app notes on the subject.

Many Thanks.

KR,

Shai

Hi @shai_b ,

As far as I know, the 77x113 mm 2 turn antenna in https://www.nxp.com/products/rfid-nfc/nfc-hf/nfc-readers/nfc-antenna-development-kit:OM29263ADK is the largest antenna reference I have ever seen, and it is pre-matched with the CLRC663 plus development board (CLEV6630B) by default, but to work with PN5190, you have to tune it at first. You may refer to https://www.nxp.com.cn/docs/en/application-note/AN12549.pdf for more details.

Hope that helps,

Have a great day,
Kan

Hi @shai_b ,

The read range mainly depends on the antenna size, not related with PN5190 or any other ICs, please kindly refer to the following for more details regarding this topic.
