PCA8561 Exposed paddle

On PCA 8561 LCD driver,  in layout and confused regarding the exposed die paddle.

The data sheet says   "[1] The die paddle (exposed pad) is connected to VSS and should be electrically isolated."  OK

Page 44 Figure 32 shows the footprint.  Here is the confusion.

9 Paste Pads.  OK

Entire  copper land = paddle size exposed. OK

4 round 6mm pads with a 3mm hole (?)

Can you explain?  Would have assumed that the holes would plate through to ground plane   however that goes against the note to electrically isolate.

Please assist.

Thank you.

I don't understand what you wrote.

Data sheet on page 5, Note 1 states that "The die paddle (exposed pad) is connected to VSS and should be electrically isolated.".  VSS is GND and pin 4 (VSS) is connected to GND plane.  Can I connect the exposed pad to the GND plane?

The confusion comes from Note 1 which states that the exposed pad in connected to VSS but then it also states that it should be isolated.  If it is connected to VSS, it is not isolated.

Hi

I don't think it goes against the note to electrically isolate.

I think use this VIAs can enlarge this exposed GND for multi-layer,you can only isolate this multi-layer exposed GND from the system GND at you do PCB layout!
