If it was working and now is not working it would seem most likely to be a hardware or mechanical problem with the BDM rather than a software one. Especially if it doesn't work on other PCs.
For what it's worth you can try installing the latest drivers (not the applications) from Sourceforge as they seem a bit more reliable at installing but I would think it unlikely that it will make any change.
As you have only used the BDM for a few days I would suggest contacting the seller as it may be defective.
I have had no trouble with reliability except if used incorrectly e.g. excessive target power etc,
