oh shoot...i'm sorry i've got confused of the word BDM.........just to clarify pin1 should be connected to BKGD/TAGHI/MODC...right? and pin4 to RESET..right? of 9s12dp512

get yourself a schematic of an EVB. Essentially you are right, but you will also need pull-ups on both lines.
