What is the longest possible reading distance range for HTRC1101T?

Hello,

I am designing an RFID reader for FDX and 125 kHz tags using the HTRC1101T. To achieve a longer reading distance, I have included a driver between the HTRC1101T and the antenna to increase the power of the signal sent to the tags. The matching capacitance has been tuned perfectly with the antenna. However, despite these efforts, I am unable to achieve the desired reading distance of 15 cm. The maximum reading distance I’ve been able to obtain is 10 cm, even after making various adjustments to the design and layout. I have attached some part of the schematic.

I have several questions regarding the HTRC110 and its design optimizations:

  1. What is the realistic range we can expect with the HTRC1101T when targeting the “long-range” performance specified in the datasheet? Are there specific component-level adjustments needed to achieve this?

  2. What would be a reasonable expected range for our design setup?

  3. Does the signal detector in the HTRC1101T function correctly with more triangular-shaped pulses, or does it require square wave pulses for effective detection? Specifically, does a stable high or low state need to be maintained for a certain duration?

  4. Are there any additional tips or techniques that could help improve the reading distance beyond 10 cm?

Basically, all the detail points are mentioned in the Chapter 6 "Antenna Design" in AN98080.

AN98080 Read/write devices based on the HITAG read/write IC HTRC110

 

So, please double check the points for achieving a long operation distance antenna design.

Thank you for your response. The reference design contains a lot of valuable information; however, I couldn't find details regarding the expected reading distance. I’m unsure whether there are issues with my design or if I’ve already reached the maximum reading distance range of the HTRC1101T. My desired reading distance is 15cm.

Would you please let me know an alternative for HTRC1101T from NXP products?

For HITAG reader solution, we only have HTRC1101T.

FYI. This is our partner. They have reader for HITAG.

Thank you. I checked the application note to find information about triangle shaped pulses for the demodulator input and I couldn't find any information. I still have this question:
Does the detector in HTRC1101T work also for more triangle shaped pulses or does it need square wave pulses? (meaning, does a 1 or 0 state need to be detected over a certain time? )

Would you please let me know if you can answer my question?
