Starting out in RFID and NFC

I am starting out in RFID & NFC can someone help explain the difference in what seems like protocols or chips 523 and 663? And to add more to my question what is different in the PEGODA eval kits CLRD710 and MFEV710?  I have IDENTIV uTrust 3700F reader but do not seem to have a good program to use it.  I was hoping to use RFIDDiscover Lite but the tool does not seem to recognize my USB reader.  It is looking for port COM 3
