As I know so far NFC in iPhone devices is only for mobile payment application. You cannot use it to read passive tags or to develop custom applications using the integrated NFC chip.
The NTAG I2C Plus Explorer kit is fully compatible with NFC enabled Android devices using the demo application:

And the source code for the Android application is provided in the demo kit page under "Snippets, Boot Code, Headers, Monitors, etc":
