Configuring Antenna Detection Range on OM27462CDKP with NFC Cockpit

Hello everyone,

I am working with the OM27462CDKP development kit and trying to configure the antenna parameters to limit the detection range. Specifically, I want to control the detection distance so that NFC cards are only detected at very short distances, preventing longer-range detection.

I noticed that Automatic Wave Control (AWC) and Dynamic Power Control (DPC) are dynamically adjusting their values to optimize performance. However, I would like to override these automatic adjustments and set static values to manually control the detection range.

Questions:

  1. Which registers or parameters in NXP NFC Cockpit v8.0.0 should I modify to achieve this?

  2. Is there a way to disable AWC and DPC so that I can manually configure the antenna parameters?

  3. Are there specific Tx or Rx gain settings, AGC values, or tuning capacitors that I should adjust to reduce the effective detection range?

  4. If possible, could you provide guidance or documentation references on how to achieve manual antenna tuning for range limitation?

Any insights from those who have worked on similar configurations would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

Hello,

Thank you for your interest in our products.

We don't have any specific manual for limiting the Antenna reading range but, there are some points to clarify:

In case you are using only ISO14443 compliant cards, these cards by specification are limited to a reading range of 10cm at most.

In case you want to reduce this range, it is required to follow some steps or recommendations for antenna tunning. This means physical changes in the Antenna characteristics and matching circuit. Unfortunately it isn’t possible to just reduce the range only by software.

As you are able to see in the following antenna design video series: NFC Antenna Design | NXP Semiconductors

NFC Cockpit is a tool for fine tunning after a series of modification procedures.

Regarding DPC and AWC, these aren't enabled by factory, in order to "enable" or use these features you need to design an antenna with some specific characteristic.

I hope this information may have been useful.

Best Regards,
Fabian
