Regarding the total RAM size (DDR4) and Address Lines of MPU : LS1043A

Hello NXP team,

For the Microprocessor : LS1043ACE9QQB, we were using DDR4 (MT40A512M8SA-062E AIT:F) with 4Gb (512M x currently we are using 4GB x 4 chips = 16GB RAM, now we want to increase the RAM size as maximum supported by the MPU. From the application manual of the MPU from section 1.4.5 DDR Memory Controllers section - The memory interface controls main memory accesses and supports maximum of 32GB of main memory.

Questions/Queries as mentioned below :

  • Is that maximum of 32GB we can use from MPU for external RAM (DDR4) - is that correct? Please suggest us.
  • If we want to increase the RAM size from 16GB to 32GB whether the Address Lines of MPU will increase or remains the same ?. Since we have checked with 16GB and 20GB reference schematic all the address lines are almost used in parallel connecting with MPU for 4 chips for 16Gb and 5 chips for 20GB with address lines D1_MA00 to D1_MA13 (pls refer datasheet of LS1043A page 54 of 261 - Section 2.4 Pinout List, Table 2)

Please reply for the above two doubts which we listed for the NXP MPU : LS1043A

Regards

ALN

Maximum supported DDR by LS1043A is 512GB. Please refer Table 2-1. System memory map.
Customer can increase DDR to 32GB. Number of address lines, Chip select, Bank and Bangroup will depend based on the DDR4 chip selected.
Customer can check which DDR4 part they are planning to use and how is memory organized in DDR4
