Hi,

NHS3100 example temperature logger is using external battery to enable logging capabilities for operation during period of time, so battery is providing power for logging and reading of data through NFC interface.

Is it possible to configure NHS3100 PMU unit, to use power from NFC field only, during any read/write cycles through NFC interface and disconnect battery, and use battery only for maintaining logging capabilities once NFC field isn't available.

Thank You in advance !

Hi kd75,

The NHS3100 PMU defaults to battery supply for best power continuity.

The PMU can be forced to select NFC power by setting the force bits in the PCON register:

However, when forced to NFC, the PMU will not automatically switch back to battery power if the NFC field becomes too weak or is switched off, causing a shutdown due to power loss.

Kind regards,

Patrick

Hi Patrick,

Thank you for your answer, I appreciate it.

This is exactly how we understood, and that might be useful.

In theory, if power from NFC field is stable, once we detect NFC field we can turn off battery and bring it back to auto switch once data transmission is done.

However, if NFC field becomes weak or turned off, as you said, that will cause shutdown.

Will that cause automatic MCU reset, after which that brings again battery power as default after reset ?

If such a workflow can be achieved, that will be acceptable to us.

Thank You in advance.

Hi,

A scenario as you describe was never considered as a use case when the IC was designed. We encourage you to try this out, while being careful not to lose the ability to reflash. This is however out of the scope of the support we can give here.

Kind regards,
Dries.
