Why does EXTERNALSRC for bitbake u-boot fail with SDK 2.0-1703?

At least two bitbake failures noted when using EXTERNALSRC for 1703: 1. git error and 2. no make rule for ls1043ardb_nand_config. Please explain why and a solution especially for the 2nd issue where there is no rule to make ls1043ardb_nand_config?
