Can the SCT on an LPC5502 be used for reading a rotary encoder?

We are currently using the LPC1752 in a number of devices. As this chip is approaching an End-of-Lifetime condition, and I have to redesign one of the devices, I found the LPC5502 as a potential replacement. It is just lacking one device: A way to decode a simple rotary encoder switch.

Is it possible to emulate the LPC1752 QEI (Quadrature Encoder Interface) with the LPC5502 SCT? With the ability to create a state machine it looks like it, but the documentation in the user manual is more than confusing, and the SCT tool is no real help, either.

Hi,

Thank you so much for your interest in our products and for using our community.

I'm sorry to inform you that we don't have any software example or documentation to reading a rotary encoder with the SCTimer/PWM module, so I can't tell you if it's possible. You would be the first person to implement it. If you do, I would appreciate your feedback.

On the other hand, in addition to the manual reference, you can also refer to the SCTimer/PWM cookbook.

Hope it helps you.

Have a nice day!
