MCUXpresso SDK vs. IDE

Hi NXP Community,

I plan on using the FRDM-KE02Z40M module for an embedded system project. I was told that the MCUXpresso is the best tool to use with this board. My question is do I need the MCUXpresso SDK and also the MCUXpresso IDE to do software development with this board?

Thanks.

Hi

MCUXpresso SDK and IDE support the KE02.

If you don't use more that 32k Flash also the free IAR Kickstart version is a good choice - it is faster and has a better debugger but each example will need to be setup as a new project rather than importing.

For KE02 projects you can also use the uTasker Open Source project which contains more features that the SDK for the KE02 and adds KE02 simulation, projects on multiple IDE platform (IAR, Rowley, KDS, MCUXpresso, Keil, Greenhills, Atollic, CooCox, GCC and VS).  https://github.com/uTasker/uTasker-Kinetis/tree/master/Applications/uTaskerV1.4
It also allows projects to be developed for the KE02 that will run on most other Kinetis part without needing a redesign and other libraries.

If your project is professional you can also look into a supported uTasker KE02 license which includes full time professional support and remote desktop training/help/debugging. It includes in addition project compatibility for KE02 and i.MX RT devices (which allow running the same application at up to 600MHz if needed in the future)
