Kinetis Errata Mask 1N79P ERR010180 Clarification

I am looking for clarification on the ERR010180 for the Kinetis Errata Mask 1N79P.

ERR010180 says the following:

What is meant by the '... the clock switch may hang.'?

My assumption is that, if you are switching from FIRC to SIRC, and an external reset is asserted, then you come out of reset still in the FIRC configuration, but the next time you go to switch to the SIRC, it will hang.

Is the above assumption correct?

Thank you for your inquiry. "The clock switch may hang" means that the clock switching process may become unresponsive or stuck. However, this is an uncertain situation and does not occur in all cases. Your assumption is not completely correct. Sometimes, if an external reset is asserted during the switch from FIRC to SIRC, the system may still be in FIRC configuration after coming out of reset. But this does not mean that the next attempt to switch to SIRC will definitely hang. If the clock switch really hangs, you can try multiple resets as suggested. This is a workaround.
