How to fix hardfault encountered when calling "thr joiner add" from shell

I am working through the demo's in the Kinetis Thread Stack Demo Applications User's Guide. In section 10.5 I am encountering a hard fault every time I call "thr joiner add" from the shell interface. The sample project is "router_eligible_device" and I have tried this on two different FRDM-KW41Z boards.

Hi, I was using KDS but have since moved to MCUXpresso and associated SDK's. I have not returned to this example since switching IDE's so I don't if it is still an issue.

Hello,

The supported IDEs for the FRDM-KW41z are currently MCUXpresso and IAR.

I tried running the section 10.5, you will see a difference when you send the command thr joiner view

Documentation:

$thr joiner view
Index EUI PSK
0 0xFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF kinetis

Actual result:

$thr joiner view
Index EUI PSK
0 0xFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF THREAD

I attach some screenshots from the process I followed:
