Could you please share what microcontroller you are using so I can provide detail instructions if needed.
If you are working with MCUXpresso IDE, you may download the SDK of the microcontroller you are using on the MCUXpresso Website.
Once downloaded, you may import the SDK to MCUXpresso IDE, then you can import an example.
When you build the project, the axf file is created automatically.
