FRDM-K82F Bricked?

After I copied the file JLink_OpenSDA_V2_1_2015-10-13.bin I cannot use my FRDM-K82F. None of the light come on when I plug it in to the SDA USB. My previous program runs when I plug in to the K82F USB. How do I restart it?

I could never get my programs to run in Release mode.

Thanks!!!!!!!!!

After further searching I think my board is really dead from a corrupted bootloader with no hope for recovery.

I have not seen any way to reset or reprogram the SDA chip after this happens.

Not sure exactly what happened, but I was using Windows 10 to write the .bin file and it disconnected right after I dropped the file into the FRDM-K82F drive.

I think a 10-pin JTAG programmer may work -

SEGGER J-Link EDU - JTAG/SWD Debugger

  - but would cost more than the board itself.

Thanks for your help and please let me know if there are any other options.

Hi Claude,

so when you Press and hold the button marked RESET, Connect a USB cable with debug interface, you can't see  a drive named BOOTLOADER in windows explore. Correct?

in this case the bootloader may be broken, we have to reprogram bootloader with external emulator tool, for instance with Multilink universal

P&E Microcomputer Systems: Over 30 years as an Industry leader in Embedded Systems Development Tools...

however if the problem is not because of bootloader SW broken but board hardware broken, it's another story.

Have a great day,

Jennie Zhang

Hi Claude,

I addition to Alice...

after you install JLink_OpenSDA_V2_1_2015-10-13.bin, connect the board via OpenSDA interface, please check computer device manager if Jlink OpenSDA is correctly recognized.

if not, Download latest J-Link software package here:

https://www.segger.com/jlink-software.html

you can also try P&E open SDA interface, I attach the firmware file here. see how it works.

I suggest you read this article I wrote. it's not for your board but the update/check method is the same.

Summary of FRDM-K22F debug interface

can this help you?

Have a great day,
Jennie Zhang

Thanks for your super-fast response!

I think the problem is that I cannot install a new .bin file.

When I connect my computer to the SDA USB the board does not seem to power up. It used to light up the green LED. The reset button also used to light up the red LED when I pressed it. Now none of these happen.

When I hold down the reset button and connect the SDA port to my computer it does not show up as a USB port, so I cannot copy a .bin file.

This happened right after I tried to copy the .bin file, so maybe I overwrote the bootloader/firmware?

I'm new to this so I don't really know.

I do know that I'm good at breaking things :smileyhappy:

Thanks for the article that will be useful when I get it working again.

Sorry to hear that Julian. I just ordered a new board for $50 because I am not that familiar with programming the SDA chip. It took about a week to be delivered.

Hello claude,

After you copy the firmware JLink_OpenSDA_V2_1_2015-10-13.bin to bootloader ,

please use the OpenSDA(J5) to download and debug your project .

After you download your application project, be sure it can work well , then  you can re-insert the usb OpenSDA port,

press RESET(SW1) button, your project can work .

If still can not work ,please show your steps one by one , and about your application project .

Hope it helps

Alice
