How can I test the UART on the FMU?

Is there a way to check the UART on the FMU to see if it functioning correctly? I've tried everything (checked the baud, delt with RPi serial shenanigans, swaped Rx Tx wires, etc.) to hook up an RPi and just can't get an Rx signal on the FMU or RPi.
