PROFIBUS, CAN and RS232 are extensively used in communications networks in factories, buildings, transport infrastructures and monitoring/control equipment in our cities. Ethernet offers higher bandwidth and, in many cases, lowers cost--especially when deployed in daisy-chain topology. Technologies such as EtherCAT, PROFINET and EtherNet/IP are testament to this. In this session, we will explore how QorIQ processor families can help equipment manufacturers span this landscape using a QUICC Engine (QE) controller for UART/Ethernet-based protocol implementation, a Enhanced Triple Speed Ethernet Controller (eTSEC) for intelligent Ethernet classification and 2-port switching, and an eight-port gigabit Ethernet switch for wire-rate switching. Reference design software and hardware files will be available to help you start your own PROFIBUS and PROFINET designs. Presented by Hao Sun Presented at DwF Digital Networking Shenzhen - January 28, 2015 Session ID: APF-IND-T0049

Beginning 2016, the European New Car Assessment program (NCAP) will allocate increased scoring measures for pedestrian detection capabilities. This means that any car fitted with technologies that enable detection of a pedestrian in a hazardous situation and as a result perform collision avoidance measures shall be rewarded with an increased NCAP score. These systems must be designed and manufactured based on a solid automotive development flow. This session will address the vision processing requirements for pedestrian detection and provide training on how vision algorithms may be implemented to respond to NCAP requirements in a safe, secure and reliable way.

S32 Design Studio for ARM is a hands-on training with the new Eclipse-based tool chain with C development tools in the integrated development environment including editor, compiler, and debugger support of Freescale's latest automotive ARM-based MCUs. Participants will learn about the project creation, editing, compiling, Processor Expert configuration tool, and debugging of a small example project under the direction of one of Freescale's tools experts. The class will focus on the Freescale KEA MCUs with the highly-integrated, easy-to-use tool chain. The student will start with a project from scratch, work through new project creation, configuration of the compiler, compilation, flashing executable onto the target MCU and complete the class with debugging the project on the target MCU evaluation board.

Along with the Linux SDK release based on Yocto, Freescale also provides a pre-installed Linux SDK based on a Virtual Machine (VM) with Virtual Box. This presentation introduces how to build Linux in a virtual environment and deploy to a development system. It also illustrates how to use other pre-built tools along with the SDK. Following this session, you will understand how easy it is to use the Freescale Linux solution for developing end products.

Simultaneous multithreading (SMT) is an advanced processor microarchitecture feature that allows independent execution threads to more effectively utilize a superscalar CPU pipeline organization. SMT implementations in a 2-way superscalar pipeline maximize dual-thread concurrency with relatively little incremental dynamic power dissipation. This session focuses on the SMT capabilities included in the next-generation Power Architecture e200z9 processor core, and the improved performance/power metric achievable through this microarchitecture.

The automobile is already the 2nd largest generator of data for the Internet of Things (IoT). But what is the data used for and where is the data converted to information? Freescale and IBM are working together to make the automotive IoT real. IBM offers a messaging protocol, MQTT and Blue Mix cloud application development environment while Freescale offers a portfolio of automotive devices, including connectivity needed for the gateway. The presentation will focus on the applications, the connectivity and the challenges of big data in the automotive IoT.

This session provides an overview on the security technologies Freescale offers to secure a system through two complementary technologies: 1) the Trust Architecture already present in QorIQ P and T series including Secure Boot and 2) the TrustZone® technology introduced in the ARM®-based QorIQ LS series processors. We will outline the motivations for offering these technologies in embedded processors and show how they can be complementary for making a final system “Trustable” in the sense it does what its users and suppliers expect it to do.
