Hi,
I noticed a problem using the 56800E flash programmer for programming the 56F8013 chip using JTAG via parallel port.
I'm using CW 7.3.

The problem is this one: if I program the flash all works correctly. When I try to Verify the flash it gives me an error, and the chip is frozen until I reprogram it.

This is the log of the programming:

Using Configuration File: C:\Programmi\Metrowerks\CodeWarrior\M56800E Support\initialization\56801x_flash.cfg

Reading File C:\goofy.elf.S...

S-record ID: PROGRAM&DATA

Connecting to CCS...

Connected to local CCS server at PORT 41475

Configured to use Parallel Command Converter at port LPT1

Placing the device into debug mode, please wait...

Flash unit #0 (P:0x000000-0x001FFF) programmed, 7054 words written

Flash unit #0 (P:0x000000-0x001FFF) Verification Passed CRC32 (0xc055cb14)

Exiting Debug Mode...

and this of the verification:

Using Configuration File: C:\Programmi\Metrowerks\CodeWarrior\M56800E Support\initialization\56801x_flash.cfg

Reading File C:\goofy.elf.S...

S-record ID: PROGRAM&DATA

Connecting to CCS...

Connected to local CCS server at PORT 41475

Configured to use Parallel Command Converter at port LPT1

Placing the device into debug mode, please wait...

Flash unit #0 (P:0x000000-0x001FFF) Verification Failed CRC32 (0x690b37d3) expected (0xc055cb14)

Verification Failed

So why the verification is not working?

Thanks Bye Jack

Hi,

I don't know if we could investigate it via the forum.
Can I suggest you to log this problem in CRM system ?
So Technical Information Center could invstigate it.

Please provide us the application.
Be aware that lot of customers met problem with the parallel interface and Windows OS.
To avoid it, we recommend you the USBTap interface.

I don't remember a problem with the flash programmer and the DSP7.3.
The DSC 8.0 and a patch 8.1.1 are available.
There is a free version.
Can I suggest you to try with this version ?
May be this will fix the problem.

See below more info.
You can download the DSC 8.0 on our web site via the link:
http://www.freescale.com/webapp/sps/site/overview.jsp?nodeId=01272600612247
There is a patch for the DSC8.0 (must be installed in first) DSC8.1.1
You can download it on our web site via the link:
 http://www.freescale.com/webapp/sps/site/overview.jsp?nodeId=01272600617882140B
The Special edition license is installed by default.
If you need another version of the license please contact your local distributor.
You can have several versions installed on the same PC.
There is only one restriction: install them on separate folder.

Hi,
thanks for the answer.
2 thing:
1) the USBtap costs 500$, the parallel JTAG dongle 50$...I need to say something else?

2) I've a quastion about CW 8. There is a issues porting projects from CW 7.3 to CW 8.x? And using 8.x projects with CW 7.3?

Because I work with HC908 too, and porting projects from the old version of CW (3.1) to the new one (CW5.1) is a nightmare, so I decided to not update for the moment.

Hi,

You're right the USBTap is more expensive than the parallel cable.
Since Windows NT, the parallel port is not anymore managed really by Windows.
So lot of customers meet connection troubles with the parallel port.
To avoid them the USBTap has been introduced.

I'm sorry but what is the parallel JTAG dongle ?
We support 3 interfaces:
 - sample parallel cable (parallel on host and board),
 - wiggler interface (parallel on hast and Jtag on board),
 - USBTap (usb on host and Jtag on board).
The wiggler is manufactured by Macraigor. The price is $150.
For details please visite their web site:

The USBTap is sold $249.

You should move your application to the new DSC tool without problem.
However I can not certify this because this depends directly of your application.
To avoid problem we recommend to backup the project before to move it to the new version.
If you will meet problem you can back to the old version without problem.

Regards
Pascal

Hi,

We support 3 interfaces only:
 - sample parallel cable (parallel on host and board),
 - wiggler interface (parallel on host and Jtag on board),
 - USBTap (usb on host and Jtag on board).

We don't support other interface for DSC.
The Axiom board is not supported.
