Hey all, the IT department at my school just got finished throwing out some stuff and among it was a brand spanking new copy of CodeWarrior Pro Release 4 still in the shrink wrap that they gave to me. I noticed it was a Java/C++ IDE for Windows but you could use it to write apps for Solaris, OSX, Windows, etc. Can I still use it to get a free upgrade? What version is it at now? What platforms does it support? What platforms can I develop on with it? Thanks

Ok well I opened the box and put in the CD and it looks like it's for Solaris. I don't get it. On the front of the box it says it's "Hosted on Solaris" but on the side it says it has minimum requirements for Windows 95/NT :/

The no-longer available versions of CodeWarrior Pro for desktop development allowed you to develop for both Macintosh and Windows platforms. The "host" is the computer's OS used to run the CodeWarrior tools. In this case, it happens to be Solaris. If you were writing for the Windows platform, the minimum requirements info you mentioned specifies the type of system necessary to run the Windows app you developed.

That's the historic perspective. The current situation is that Freescale has discontinued development and support of the desktop product for several years.

Last desktop version of CodeWarrior Pro was 10.0 for the Mac, and that was several years ago. Freescale has moved CodeWarrior out of desktop app development and it is now only used to develop Linux apps and embedded applications.

Short answer is: what you've got is way out of date (but still useable), and there are no upgrades available.
