Need to reinstall CW, no CD

Is it possible to download CW from the website? I am in maintenance.

It would be V8.8 for Power PC.

I tried downloading the eval and it was referred to freescale. Maybe that's because I downloaded it a few times before I bought the Standard version.

To explain, I had CW installed on the new machine and I rehosted the license as per the instructions on the website.

I went into CW fine but when I tried to connect or run the Flash programmer, there was a license issue - cannot run plugin.

Whereas on the old machine, if there any licensing issues, they would happen on first entry into CW.

In my haste to try and fix the problem, I uninstalled CW from the new machine without checking I had my CD. Now I can't reinstall and see if I can fix my licensing problem.

But if you have any thoughts on the licensing problem, that is the harder problem to solve....

OK, for starters, is the license file actually named "license.txt"? If so, it needs to be named "license.dat". If that's not the case, Then hang onto a copy of that license file. Proceed as follows:

1) Download the special edition of CodeWarrior from the Freescale web site.

2) Once that is downloaded safely, remove the old copy of CodeWarrior, although it seems that you have done that already. Remove all of the CodeWarrior folders in the Program Files directory. (This assume you only have the one version of CodeWarrior. If you have installed multiple CodeWarrior toolsets, then delete ONLY the folders of the version that you're trying to get to work.)

3) Install the special version of CodeWarrior.

4) Try building a project and running it. Then try flashing it. If that all works, then save a copy of the license.dat file that came with the installation for safekeeping. (It is located in the CodeWarrior directory.)

5) Now replace that license file with your license.dat file and see if you regain all of the features of the toolset.

OK, what do you mean by the special edition - do you mean the evaluation?

I have now been able to download the eval edition but it hasn't solved my problem.

I can enter the IDE, but cannot connect - the message is Unable to use the plugin EPPC debugger - it is licensed and a valid license key cannot be found.

Can anyone help?

What is the name of the license file?

Can you provide the full error message that you are getting?

Have your renamed the license.txt file that you posted and and placed it in the CodeWarrior directory? Did you follow my instructions to purge the system of the old copy of CodeWarrior?

I uninstalled the old version with Windows Add remove programs.

I downloaded the eval edition which was the Windows version 8.8 and installed it, then updated it with all the patches.

So I ended up with exactly the same folder structure in Program Files, no need to purge (unless it was better to install the Linux version to be different?)

I still get the same error which is

Unable to use the plugin EPPC-Debugger. It is licensed and a valid license key was not found.

I didn't get a license with the new evaluation - but I see there is one in the Codewarrior PA V8.8 folder.

Previously I had a floating license in the FlexLM folder - I was using Flexlm to serve up a floating license located on my own PC.

It seems the thing starts working when I put my repair/rehost license in the Codewarrior PA V8.8 folder instead of as I had it in the FlexLM folder. I can connect to the target. The evaluation license that I got with the evaluation does not let me do this.

But I thought that if I ran lmgard and made sure that the daemon was up and running , that would be enough to book a license out from the Flexlm folder - why did this not happen?

That is exactly what you did when you repaired your license file from on-line licensing,

The license file delivered with

   Evaluation: CodeWarrior for Power Architecture Processors, Linux Application Edtn (Windows) 
is different from the file delivered with

   Evaluation: CodeWarrior for Power Architecture, Professional Edtn (Windows) 

I wrongly assumed that you were attempting to do Linux application development.

According to my understanding, everything is working correctly since you installed your floating license.

Am I right?

I have finally worked out what I was doing wrong.

I needed TWO copies of the same license file on my PC.

One in the FLexLM folder because I am acting as a server.

One in the CW install folder as I am also acting as the client.

At one point I had an expired eval license in the CW install folder and it is this that allows me to enter the IDE, yet not run the tools.

When I made the two files the same, that's when it started working!

Thanks for your advice anyway!

I thought I would need to regenerate the licenses today as the year's support runs out today, but they appear to still work.

I guess that's what perpetual means!

Yes. As long as you use the same PC as FLEXlm server your license should work.

You just need a new license in case the MAC ID from the PC changes.

This only happens if you switch to a new PC or of you change the Ethernet card on the PC.

should allow you to download the installation package for CodeWarrior PowerArchitecture V8.8.

Apply your license file to the installation and you should be up and running.
