Hello Pascal,

There is a problem with my Debugger it is giving: "CCS:USB OPEN FAILURE" while loading the debugging data.

Green light is glowing when I connect the USB TAP (ONCE) to the system. But i am not able to load the data for debugging.

Can you please help me in this regard.

Please try with the last version:

  CodeWarrior for DSC56800E v8.2.3

I don't remember when Vista was supported by CodeWarrior For DSC.

Hi,

May be the installation is corrupted or the DSC V6.3 too old for the patch.

Hi

That makes sense.

I downloaded and installed 7.1 and although the USB TAP was missing from the options I've fixed that.

The situation is that I have 3 partially functioning TAPS.

They can communicate with the IDE up to a point and then time out internally.

It looks as if the Loader Firmware is functioning but the apps behind it are not ... as if they are in some hung state.

Is there a way to upgrade the firmware or issue a factory reset ?

I did try running ccs.exe but that just runs doing nothing?

Regards

I remember a problem with DSC V7.x but don't remember exactly the version (7.1, 7.1.1, ...).

I think it should be interresting to install the last version DSc v8.2.3.

Now it could have some problem with old USBTap.

See below some words about that.

==================================================================================================================================
CodeWarrior USBTAP Product Notification

An early revision of the CodeWarrior USBTAP has been sometime shown to be sensitive to Electrostatic Discharge (ESD) from human touch.   Users should take care to ground themselves when handling the USBTAP unit.

This notification applies to following parts numbers and revisions:

CWH-UTP-STC-HX    (900-20681)
CWH-UTP_PPPCD-HX  (900-75094)
CWH-UTP-PPCC-HX   (900-20659)
CWH-UTP-ONCE-HX   (900-20681)
CWH-UTP-CF-HX     (900-20682)

How to tell if your USBTAP is susceptible to ESD?

Look at bottom on UTAP case.  The sticker on the bottom of the case will show 900-xxxxx.  Check to see if this matches one of the numbers above.

How to tell if your USBTAP is affected:

If you suspect your USBTAP is no longer working due to ESD, try the following:

A.  Setup was working fine and then stopped working.

Check to see if Windows can recognize your USBTAP:

            - Plug your USBTAP into a USB Port of a computer running Windows XP
            - Wait 30 seconds
            - Does "Windows found new hardware dialog appear"?  If yes, then your USBTAP has not been harmed by ESD
            - Open windows "Device manager"
            - Expand "System devices" category
            - Does "CodeWarrior USBTAP" appear on the list? If yes, then your USBTAP has not been harmed by ESD

B. Having trouble during initial setup.

Update and reinstall the USBTAP driver

            - Ensure you have the latest CodeWarrior release.   Updated drivers may be included
            - Drivers are found in the "CodeWarrior" program file directory under the ccs/drivers directory
            - Reinstall with the directions are included in this directory
            - Repeat step A.

If both A or B fail and the USBTAP is one of the 900-xxxxx series tap, you probably have experienced an ESD related failure and the unit needs to be replaced.

Returning you Unit:

If your unit has failed, please follow the RMA instructions at the following link:

===================================================================================================

and more ....

Did you tried with an example delivered on the installation ?

If you get the same problem with an example delivered on the installation, the problem should be:

- with the USBTap,

- or with the PC configuration,

- or with the board,

- or with the project config.

Check the USBTap.

When you plug it to the PC, the USBTap must be detected.

If this is not the case may be the interface is damaged.

When the interface is connected to the board and to the PC, the 2 light should be on. Is it the case ?

Check the board.

Check that the Jtag connection is selected. This is done by a jumper. This jumper define if the Jtag or the // connector is used. Is it working using a sample // cable as interface ? Do you have another board ?

Check the PC.

Can you install the tool on another PC ?

Check the project.

After to start the debug session, the ccs tool is automatically launched too.

Be sure that the right settings are selected in the target settings panels.

Open it and go to Debugger | Remote Debugging and select 56800 Local USBTAP connection.

Pascal

I'm experiencing the same problem with a customer's notebook with Vista business, s.p.1, and codewarrior for 56f8367.

The usb tab is recognized when inserted, but the driver is not correctly installed.

I have already uninstalled codewarrior and deleted its folder, and reinstalled in a folder with a different name, with this sequence:

1) codewarrior v8.0

2) update 8.1.1a

3) patch  8.2.2

4) rohs usbtap update

After that, connecting the tap I obtain the same problem, and inside the control panel an error message is shown.

I have tried with another tap and with another usb port, but the problem remains.

These usb taps are brand new, and they work with my xp computer.

Hi Pascal,

thanks for the help, I shall download the trials.

Do you have any ideas on why the usb tap update failed..

downloaded the RHOS USBTAP Update which refuses to do the job because it says ....

!   A qualified instalation of the CodeWarrior tools to be update could not be found in the location specified, Please check the directory selected and try again.

Well I browsed to the installation, and then the bin folder and then ...  nothing seems to work.

Does anybody know what folder the Update is looking for?

I have 3 Taps which have failed with a similar selection of errors.

The latest failed last week and reinstalling codewarrior 6.3 does not cure the problem.

I downloaded the RHOS USBTAP Update which refuses to do the job because it says ....

Also any clever tricks folks might know to get these critters working.

Cheers.

Hi,

It seems you're using an old version CW for DSC V6.3.

The last version is CW for DSC V8.2.3.

I recommend you to install it.

You can have several version of tools installed on same PC.

You can download this version on our web site via the link:

http://www.freescale.com/webapp/sps/site/prod_summary.jsp?code=CW-56800E-DSC

For details please have a look in:

http://www.freescale.com/webapp/sps/site/prod_summary.jsp?code=CW-56800E-DSC&tab=In-Depth_Tab

In the download tab you can download the Special Edition or the Evaluation.

The Special edition contains the special edition license limited to 32 kb of Code.

We recommend you to download the Evaluation edition.

A Professional Evaluation license is provided for first 30 days.

After 30 days the product will function at the Special Edition level.

If you need another version of the license please contact your local distributor.

You can purchase it directly from the web site too.

We changed the pricing and packaging structure for Codewarrior Tool.

Now there are 4 suites:

special (free version)

basic

standard

professional

Please refer to the link for details:

http://www.freescale.com/webapp/sps/site/overview.jsp?nodeId=0127262E703BC5

Go to the www.freescale.com and click on My Freescale.

After you were logged, select CodeWarrior Licensing under MY Secure Application.

In the new dialog you can manage your license file.

Keep in mind you can have several versions installed on the same PC.

There is only one restriction: install them on separate folder.

If you're using an old version, please backup your project before to try it with this new version.

If you will meet some compatibility issue you could back to the older version without problem.

For the patches, please use the link :

Hi,

I recommend you to re-install the tool.

The problem could be due to an installation error.

Please re-install the tool on another folder to have a clean installation.

Sorry, but I do not understand.

Re-install the tool, do you mean the whole Codewarrior or is it some install software just for the USB-TAP?

Thanks:-)

hi ,

Now am facing the same problem , i can't able to do a debug in my code warrior 10 version

It is showing "USB open failure " error. I tried by re installing the USB TAP then also the same error is coming.

The green LED in the board is blinking (shows the whole configuration in my board is correct)

The USB failure error happens when the debugger index reaches at 87%

Can any body lead me to valid solution at the earliest ?

Hi,

What is the version used ?

Please provide us more details about the Tool version used.
To do that you must:
* CW:
Start the IDE and click on Help | About Metrowerks CodeWarrior.
Click on Installed Products
Provide us all info displayed.
Or you can save them in a txt file.

If the Installed Products is not available you should find information in the welcome.txt

hi ,

Thanks stalisman.

Finally i resolved the above issue by ,

1) Cleaned the registry by one open source registry cleaner tool 'CCleaner'

2) Uninstalled old usb driver and then reinstalled code warrior tool.

3) Installed the usb driver automatically by plugging it.
