Problem with first time programming of S9S08SG32

I am working on controller with part no. - S9S08SG32E1WTL

Below is the SCH as in our board for the controller programming section. We are facing issue with first time programming of the board.

When we use 6-pin connector along with P&E debugger to program the board, for the very first time when we try to program it, it displays “Connect (Reset)” window, which is repeated again and again, and the board doesn’t get programmed. We have seen the reset, it is happening properly.

What could be the reason for same and what can be done to get it right?

The most common fault cause would the oscillator. Can you verify that it is running with an oscilloscope?

Hello Lundin,

The '9S08SG32 includes an ICS module, and the power up default is FEI mode, that uses the internal reference.  The XTAL and EXTAL pins will initially default to GPIO, which would remain unless configured for an external reference.  So there would be little to observe with an oscilloscope.

This would be the situation for the majority of '9S08 devices.

Hello Kapil, and welcome to the forum.

Do you supply Vdd to the MCU from an external source, during programming?  The USB Multilink Interface does not supply power via its Vdd connection.  This is a voltage input to the Multilink.

I know it has an internal clock, I assumed there was an "ECLK" output on some pin. But it seems this is not the case.
