I am investigating field failure and product with MPC8314E processor hung up at the beginning of U-Boot process.

Debugging over the serial port indicates DRAM: 512 MiB (DDR2, 32-bit, ECC off, 266.667 MHz).

Process stopped after this line.

An actual DRAM has 4GB size - 2 ICs p/n MT47H128M16RT-25E from Micron Technologies.

Can it cause the problem, and why DRAM size displayed incorrectly (512 MB instead of 4 GB)?

Copy of debugging screen shot it attached.

NOR FLASH memory with U-Boot image (p/n S29GL256N) has correct supply voltage, and signals CE and OE are seems OK.

What other troubleshooting steps/tools can I use to debug this failure?

Please note the above is 512 M Bytes. Then the 4Gb is bits. 4Gb/8=512MiB.

Your log shows Uboot 2013.07, this is quite new version, for MPC8315/MPC8314 family processors we offer U-Boot Version: "2009.03-rc2 plus Freescale patches" in our official Linux BSP.

Please look DDR memory-related settings in your U-boot configuration.
