Hi,

I can only comment for the NTAG SmartSensor ICs, i.e. the NHS3100 and the NHS3152.

The UK suffix indicates the package used is the WLCSP25 (2.51x2.51x0.5 mm):

This is not a human-solder-friendly package, to put it mildly.

For a thesis, you're far better off using the HVQFN24 package (4x4x0.85 mm):

These ICs can be bought via distributors or directly from NTAG SmartSensor|NXP

To support development, we also offer boards and kits with the NHS3100 and NHS3152 ICs.

The NHS3152 offering of kits (PCB containing an NHS3152 HVQFN24 + LPC-Link2 debugger board) is:

NHS3152THADADK: Therapy Adherence NHS3152 Starter Kit|NXP

NHS3152 General Starter Kit|NXP

The NHS31xx IC can be used both powered and passive. The energy from the RF field is harvested and can be used to power the complete IC (at 1.85V, if I'm not mistaken). In passive mode, all HW blocks and PIOs are functional.

We label the ICs as being semi-passive: a battery is typically used for unattended monitoring, but the energy harvesting feature guarantees full data readout even in case of a battery failure.

Hope this helps somewhat. Good luck with your thesis - whatever your choice.

Kind regards,
Dries.
