Can a mifare classic cardreader read any data from Desfire cards

Can a mifare classic cardreader read any data from Desfire cards, aside from the unique serial number?

For example are there any sections of a desfire card that are backwards compatible with the old mifare classic layout that a mifare classic cardreader can read? Or is there any compability mode classic - desfire you can enable on the card?

Edit: The question is for older mifare classic cardreaders that were never made/designed with Desfire in mind.

which reader you are using? For NXP NFC reader, for example, PN7462/PN5190/..., it can read both Mifare classic and Mifare Desfire.

Since this old reader has no information about DESFire in mind, I am not sure if it can support DESFire or not.
