Quoting Wikipedia:

'The term "Serial Communications Interface" (SCI) was first used at Motorola around 1975 to refer to their start-stop asynchronous serial interface device, which others were calling a UART. '

The terms SCI and UART are synonyms.

Our specific module implementation eSCI, used on certain MPC56xx devices, offers 2 functionalities: UART and LIN.

Note that LinFlex module that is being used on the rest of MPC56xx is the different module (coming from JDP program), however offers the same functionalities (UART and LIN).

Simple example code you may find here, chapter 15 and 16:

http://cache.freescale.com/files/32bit/doc/app_note/AN2865.pdf
