If your code is in flash, then LPCXpresso IDE will automatically use a hardware breakpoint.

Can you explain then how it works. You say that if I add a blue dot breakpoint in the IDE a hardware breakpoint is set. I can set a lot of blue dot breakpoints and I do not think that the uC has so many of them.
