License server dying on me...

Hi, I am on Windows 7 64 bits and installed the IDE. When I tried to generate the license, I selected "Create Serial Number and Activate...", which returned an error after I clicked OK (I could generate the serial number and I received the activation code by email). The error message reads "Unable to store serial number: String index out of range: -93". When I try to enter the activation code, I get the message "No license to activate".

To start debugging, I went to the directory \nxp\lpcxpresso_3.5\bin and tried to run crt_emu_lpc11_13_nxp.exe -info-license and Windows reported an error (the program just died). I added \windows\sysWOW64 to my path but same result.

Does anyone have a suggestion for my next step?

My concern is that the IDE does not seem to recognize its serial number and does not find a feature to activate. This may be related to the binary crash reported earlier.

Thank you for the suggestion - I try to avoid bothering a forum when it comes to straight and simple answers ;-)

Point 1 above gives me the awkward and unexpected answer "Unable to store serial number: String index out of range: -93" in a MessageBox after I click OK (note that the IDE does something because I get the activation code by email).

Point 2 opens another error MessageBox saying "LPCXpresso: Error - No license to activate". This may be related to the fact that the IDE was not able to store the serial number...

Any suggestion?

Is it of any help anyway?

Note: I had to reinstall this PC recently but LPCXpresso is still on my list of software that failed (other things were fixed in the the process).

Note 2: the directory C:\windows\sysWOW64 is not in my path at this time. I tried to invoke crt_emu_lpc11_13_nxp.exe with a fixed path by hand but no improvement. Could it be a reason for the IDE to fail with the serial number?

Can you tell me the value of your %PUBLIC% environment variable. It should point to a directory. And can you make sure that directory exists, and is writable by you.

%PUBLIC% refers to c:\Users\Public, which exists but was read-only.

I changed the access rights but could not generate the serial number. Still the same fault.

Thank you for your help anyway. I'll contact you for further debugging.

By the way, I have installed the tools on another computer that worked flawlessly but it was under Vista 32-bit. Maybe there is some issue with 64-bit Windows (it would not be the first time :-) )

I've got the same experience, I've installed on two machine , the working has OS Linux Mint 10 and the other not working is in Ubuntu 10.04.
When I observe the generated serial number from Linux Mint system it's only 32 character without dash , but serial number from ubuntu system is 44 character without dash, that's why from ubuntu system got an error string index out of range.
My question is why the length of serial number could generate in different length in some system ?

- which version of LPCXpresso are you using?
- what are the serial numbers that work and don't work?
- please post the entire log file that contains the error

It looks like you have confused serial numbers and activation codes.
The code:

JWPZ-OTOW-CXOQ-HRKY-BVF5-L3N5-ARIZ-E3LX-H3OT-FZIV-NXLX

is an activation code that must then be entered into the lpcxpresso activation system. When this has been entered, you will be emailed with a serial number.

Please read section 3.3 (Activation) of LPCXpresso Getting Started guide for details of the activation process.

Now click "Copy serial number to clipboard" and then "OK".

You will go to the CodeRed Site. Login to the site and go to "My Registrations" and paste the serial number and click "Send me my activation code".

An "Activation Code" will be emailed to you.
