Hi,

Does anyone know what the small blue superscript icons mean that sometimes (?) appear above the main icons in the Project window? The ones I can see now are 'C' and '<>'. There seems to be no mention of them in the IDE documentation?

If so, then the <> indicates that per-file properties have been applied to, in this case, cr_startup_lpc13.c.

Thanks for the link - that explains the '<>' icon but what does the superscript 'C' icon applied to some directories mean? I thought it might have meant that a directory contained files that had altered properties (<>) but this does not seem always to be the case.

The c indicates that you have created the folder as a "Source Folder" rather than a "Folder". The main difference between the two is that typically a "Source Folder" is included in all builds, where a normal folder is not (via the [I]Exclude from Build[/I] option).

However Eclipse does not seem to be 100% consistant with this "Source Folder" [I]c[/I] icon. Thus some folders, like the default [I]src[/I] one are not excluded from the build, but do not display with the [I]c[/I] in their icon.

By the way, these icons are known as "Label decorations" in Eclipse-speak - google this phrase for more information.

Thanks again.

A little while ago I had excluded a file from the build process in one project- maybe at that time all the other projects/folders/files were marked with the 'C' icon to indicate that they were not excluded??

Yes, if you exclude an individual file, then this will subtly change the [I]c[/I] icon used to indicate that this is a source file. Thus in the below screenshot, main.c has been excluded from the build...

Your last message has reminded me of something that has vexed me in the past. If a file has been excluded from a project, as you show, there does not seem to be anyway of putting it back later if needed. I have resorted to adding a new file and then copying the contents of the excluded file to the new one.

This can happen if there is a problem with, say a function in a file, then in the file that contains to call to that file, I can comment out the call, carry on testing and then when I have figured things out, would like to restore the first file.

Select the file you had excluded in project explorer. Open up the [I]Exclude from Build[/I] menu entry. Untick the boxes. Click OK. File now will be included in the build again.
