Hello,

I just got my LPC-Xpress board
and when I try to install USB driver for LPC-Link
Windows XP does not recognized the tool.

I am using Windows XP Service Pack 3.

Any Ideas?

Did you install LPCXpresso IDE? It includes the drivers.

Yes I did.

I figured out what the problem was.

For some unknown reason my Win XP
enumerated the LPC-Link with the following:
VID 0471 and PID DF55

But the LPC-Link Driver that came with Code Red
has VID 1FC9 PID 0009

Windows could not recognized the hardware,
So what I did was to manually change the Drivers VID and PID.

That allow windows to see the hardware and install the driver.

Hello,

After changing the VID and PID
and Windows XP finally allowing me to install driver.

But Now there is another problem,
Code Red IDE does not see the LPC-Link Debugger.

Windows install the Driver with modified VID and PID and shows
the LPC-Link under Universal Serial Bus Controllers under the name:
LPC-Link Debug Probe v1.1

Any Ideas?

Hi,

Changing the VID/PID in the driver is the WRONG THING TO DO, and you will ensure now that it will never work Please change them back (a re-install will not help as Windows will see that the latest driver is installed and will not replace it). The VID/PID that you report, and the drivers, as supplied, are all correct.

If doing this still doesn't help, try changing the following preference:
Windows->Preferences
+ LPCXpress

I try all that you suggested and still
having problems with Code Red not seeing the LPC-Link board.

The driver installs but Code Red does not see it.

I don't know what else to try.

Any Ideas?

Please tell us exactly what you mean by "The driver installs but Code Red does not see it.":
- which driver installs?
- what error are you getting from the IDE?
- do you see the "Initialising LPC-Link" splash screen?
- did you backout the change you made to the driver?

Hello,

After hours of search and trying out what can be happening,
I started troubleshooting my LPC-Link board and found
that the L1 and L2 are missing on my hardware.

PSU_LX1 and PSU_LX2 have no inductors for the DC/DC
on chip converters therefore PSU_Vout1 and PSU_Vout2 are wrong.

I am already falling behind contest.
Can you guys tell me if I can send back and you guys send another one?

Hello,

I checked out the User Manual of the LPC315X
and found out that the on board DC/DC converters may or may not
be needed.

So the board is using LDO regulators from USB BUS Power.
Therefore, there is something else wrong.

Can you head over to the <install>/bin/Scripts directory and (from the command line) run 'bootLPCXpresso winusb'

This function is performed by the IDE when you start a debug session, but it might give some clues as to what is wrong with your setup.

When you first connect the board, Device Manager will report a "USB Device with DFU Capabilities" (this has a VID/PID of 0471/df55). After you have run the script (on XP) you will see "LPC-Link Debug Probe" (this has a VID/PID of 1fc9/9).

If this doesn't work, head back to the Scripts directory and run 'bootLPCXpresso' (without parameters). This will boot LPC-Link as a HID device (with a VID/PID of 1fc9/7).

Regardless of the way the LPC-Link is booted, the IDE will find it.

Hello CodeRed Support team,

I am terribly sorry for causing such confusion,
but I finally figure out what my problem was.

It turna out that my asus motherboard with AMD processor
does not enumerate USB devices very well for some unknown reason.
I am still looking into that. Any way.

After looking at Microsoft suggestions regarding USB drivers and without any luck.
I finally decided to manually search the registry and manually delete any entries
that the previous installation had made. Once I got rid off them, I disconnected the LPC-Link board and restarted my system.

After it had booted, I plugged in the LPC-Link Board again, Windows did not recognized it again, so I manually installed the driver using Device Manager pointing windows to the c:\nxp\lpcxpresso_3.2\Drivers\DFU\MassDfu.inf file
then windows installed this driver.

After all this, I run Code Red IDE, compile blink project, then run a debug session
in which this time The LPC-Link Flash Screen appeared. I was not done yet,
I had to once again go to Device Manager and tell Windows to install the LPC-Link Probe driver from this inf file c:\nxp\lpcxpresso_3.2\Drivers\LPC-Link.

After all this, Code Red finally saw the Debugger.

What a mess.

Any how.

Thanks for all the suggestions even though none worked in my case. You know some times you have to hack windows in order to do things right.

Thanks for tracking this down.

FYI, We have made a small improvement to the DFU driver in the v3.3 release (which should be released later today, or tomorrow) to try to force Windows to re-enumerate the USB devices after the LPC-Link has been booted. It as an improvement, but it doesn't seem to work on all motherboards :-)

Problem: When I try to debug blinky, LPC-Link v1.1 indicates a timeout problem. "Timeout waiting for LPC-link v1.1 to initialize. If this is the firt use after installation, your drivers may not have finished loading Continue waiting. [yes/no]

Solution: Restart windows, now windows device manager shows: LPC-link debug probe v1.1
Clunky, but workable.

I'm having the same problem. When I plug in the LPCxpresso board in the USB port, the LED2 is flashing. I'm running Windows Vista and under device manager I can't see any LPC- Link device? Can anyone please help...

Whenever you plugin LPC-Link, you will never see LPC-Link displayed. This is because it needs booting- it powers on as a DFU device.

Booting LPC-Link is done automatically when you start a debug session, or you can boot it manually by following the instructions here.

BTW: Unless you are doing something unusual, you should never need to boot it manually.
