I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask, but I have no idea where else to ask.
A few months ago I sent in a picture of my smashed PIC for a free LPCXpresso board. I received a confirmation email, telling me my LPCXpresso board was on the way.
A few months later, I have heard nothing and received nothing.

I had not seen this campain yet.
I think I'll give it a try also, they just state "demonstrating what you would do with your old 8/16-bit board".

So I think you actually do not have to break it or damage it.

Maybe I should donate my old 8 bit board to a museum and make a photo of this, that should statisfy NXP :D

You do not have to actually damage a board. I just sent in a photo of an Arduino Nano held in a death grip by a pair of pliers and they sent me an LPCXpresso1114. How simple is that?

My Arduino Nano is in retirement now, safe and sound.

I too did microwaved a PIC18 , but I am really not expecting something to arrive soon. I did it for the "cause" :)

Nothing received here either. Six week after receiving the Email to say that it was on it's way. Still hoping to see it sometime soon.

Starting from Feb.2011 I subscribed a few times for an LPCxpresso board, toolchain and promo pack in order to evaluate Cortex-M0 for current and future designs. Of course I didn't destroyed any hardware for this, it was not requested, but i did post pictures and movie as requested. Pretty weird request in my opinion. Never received anything.

Once NXP sent me a request to complete their survey. I did it and received a confirmation e-mail. NXP wrote to me on 29.03.2011:

Subject: "Your FREE LPCXpresso board is on its way!"
Body: "...Your free NXP LPCXpresso toolchain is on its way and should arrive in about three weeks..."

9 weeks today and I didn't received anything from NXP, except e-mails.

This CortexM0 campaign looks to me like a big failure for the company image. It may be considered a success if you count the subscribers but on the long run it's a mistake.

Now I do not trust NXP any more.

I'm sorry to see this.
These lpc1xxx controllers are very nice devices and different controllers from the lpc11xx, 14xx, 21xx and 24xx have proven to be very reliable in different applications I developed.

I do remember that when these chips came on the market the demand was so big that they had problems delivering to all customers - they had to split the production batches between their customers to keep them all happy.
Needless to say that we (development and hobbyist type users) are pulling on the wrong end when it comes to demanding stuff ...
But do think about the fact that these LPCXpresso boards give us a very nice debuggable target and without the effort of NXP, Embedded Artists and Code Red we never would have had so much fun developing software and building our prototype hardware!

Yes, too bad it takes so long for the boards to arrive.
Yes, too bad that commitments made to deliver are not followed as requested.
I think NXP is doing a good job of shooting themselves in their feet (both...) with this marketing campai(g)n. They clearly had not expected to receive so many requests :eek:

Not sure that I would go so far as to not trust NXP any more.

I just think that their communications could be very much improved. It wouldn't take much for them to send us an Email saying "Sorry we are experiencing delays, we will be sending out the LPCxpresso's soon"

I wonder if NXP marketing staff follow this forum...If so, NXP please update us on the status of the Free LPCXpresso toolchains that you offered us.

I also had to contact Kim Khoury and provide info for her to track down my photo submission. My board arrived 2 weeks after that.

I was planning to send photos or video, but I see that NXP can not handle the order flow.

I think they should stop the campaign until they find a way to handle the shipments.

Today I received a T-shirt of SchmartBoard in just 15 days, which is normal.

Before buying my 1st LPCxpresso I tried ordering a sample. After that i was redirected to some crappy Bulgarian representative :), and I'am telling you Bulgarians don't give free stuff easily , especially samples:). So i gave up from acquiring stuff that way. Not to mention the local post offices how low level they are.
BTW the "symbolic" cause of destroying the concurrence is cool. I did what i must to contribute, and will wait another month or two. After that i will try some other "free stuff giveaway" :)

Yup, this all depends on who is handling the packages.
I once had an 1500 USD package lost in local mail, it arrived at the local distribution center but got lost ... Mind you this was a big package with a PC cabinet (in it's original ASUS cardboard box) and a big brown box that clearly contained computer equipment.
A second time a smaller package got lost through DPD courier service. After requesting an investigation I got a phone call from the local delivery guy "I'm pretty sure you must have seen it, I left the package behind the flower pot in your front garden". - But then, who signed for this ??? My name was on the form.
Needless to say that nice guy was fired the week after...

:D This is a nice example of 'croocked English' - here not harmful at all.
Bobi-One means 'competition'. In Dutch this is called 'concurrentie' so i immediately understood what he means (Oops, I am assuming Bobi is a [I]he[/I] :rolleyes:).
We have all seen examples of threads where discussion ended in complete flame wars - sometimes just because of misunderstanding each others English.
Thanks for reminding us that not all of us speak or write fluent English and that the information may get lost because on interpretion of the written words :)

I have been working for international companies for over 20 years (AT&T Bell Labs, Ericsson, Philips Semiconductors/NXP) and even I sometimes have problems with my English - although other times I am better in explaining a problem in English (or even German) than Dutch :eek:

P.s: before people start asking: I had nothing to do with the team working on the LPC microcontrollers and I do not work for NXP anymore (I am now a self employed electronics/mechanical CAD engineer).
I am however an embedded designer with over 15 years of experience with ARM products (ARM7/7TDMI/9/11 and now Cortex M0/M3).
