Selling on the board

Hi,

After registering the board, can it be sold on for use by someone else? Will the activation stage work for them?

I'm beginning to realise how limited it is due to being a closed system and will only get a limited use out of it I think.

The LPC-Link portion of your board is indeed locked so that it can only be used with CodeRed tools (either LPCXpresso or the full Red Suite product).

However an individual LPCXpresso board is not locked to a specific installation of Code Red's tools, so as long as the new user of your board has Code Red tools installed, they will be able to use the board that you have purchased.

Ok, that doesn't really answer my question really. Ok, they can use it, but do they activate the board again?

Yes/No.

The board really does not need activation. The software does need a activation for use at full capacity (128 KB download). Registration is required for each machine and / or operating system, regardless of who is the owner.

The new owner of the board will have to install LPCXpresso.

Then they will follow the procedure Help - Product Activation - Create Serial number and Activate followed by Enter Activation Code.

Does that answer your question?

To put it another way:

The software needs activation. The board does not. The board will work anywhere.

Were you just asking if you could activate LPCXpresso again with the same board or did you purchase another board from someone?

What did you mean by closed system?

I was asking if the board could be activated more than once, I bought the board new.

As for [B]closed[/B] I mean, that I can't just download the binutils/gcc/gdb source, compile for this target and use every feature, i.e. it's closed. To break away from Code Red (I'm an individual - not a company - and wanting to use a language other than C/C++) and to use the chip to it's fullest, I'm going to have to cut off the lpc-link and work out a way of getting some USB loading going to the LPC1769 board.

OK. The way you posed your question I thought you wanted to sell your board and were making sure they could use it.

You can use UART0 and ISP to load code. If you have an assembler or compiler that can create a .hex file and then create a CRC and insert the CRC at location 0x1C (I believe that is the location) then you can use FlashMagic or UART0 ISP to load your code. I am not an expert on this, as I have only been using my LPC1769 for a couple of months now. If I'm wrong about this I hope someone will set me straight.

I haven't found a case yet where the lpc-link prevented me from "using the chip to it's fullest".

If you get the USB loader working share the code so we can all benefit from it.:)

That is correct. The part can be flashed but one will be need a good debugger. This can be done, but my undertanding that it takes some effort (Search for literature published by J. Lynch). The LPCXpresso IDE is great for getting to speed on the architecture if short on time. Ofcourse if using for a work project, the cost of upgrading is reasonable.

Might be worth taking a look at the LPCUSB based USB secondary bootloader that CodeRed supply in the RDB1768 examples, which can be found in the LPCXpresso examples subdirectory or from:

You would need to strip out the LCD related code as this is not applicable for the LPCXpresso board, but this ought to be fairly straightforward and I'm fairly certain this has been discussed previously in the forum.

I also support the use of open source tools and have used UNIX/Linux for a long time.:)

For now I am using the LPCXpresso IDE because it has features that have made it very easy to learn how to use NXP LPC.

I would not totally abandon the IDE. Use it in conjunction with the open source tools.
