Sorry, but there are currently no plans to support any platform other than Windows.

If not then we certainly will not give LPCXpresso further consideration. Linux is now a major platform for embedded systems development.

It should be possible to use GCC on another platform to build code and download it to an LPC1xxx microcontroller. The LPC1xxx family's on-chip UART or USB bootloaders (in USB parts) could be used to program the microcontrollers.

Eclipse is crossplatform.
GCC is crossplatform.
GDB is crossplatform.
The only missing piece is the GDB server needed for the JTAG.
If you are not willing to support Linux for that little part of the toolchain, or at least specify the USB communication protocol I don't think it's worth considering NXP in the future.

There are other commercial tools that do run under Linux.

Rowley CrossWorks and CodeSourcery G++ are two that come to mind. You will probably need a JTAG debug tool; Rowley supports their own CrossConnect Lite which is also fairly inexpensive.

Both have relatively inexpensive personal versions although the Rowley one is intended for non-commercial use only.

It would be nice to have CodeRed support under Linux (or in my case OS X).

It's up to them (or NXP) to decide if the potential market is worth the cost to develop some tools for other platforms.

I also think it would be a nice thing to have CodeRed support under Linux.
I know it is possible to run LPCXpresso and RedSuite under VirualBox, but most part is already crossplatform.

I am going through the same pain for Linux at the moment. I am developing for
the LPC17xx family.

I have decided on Eclipse/Zylin Plugin/Sourcery G++ tools
and for debugging I am going to use OpenOCD and the Turtelizer 2 hardware, which I will make myself from the supplied Eagle PCB files.

The "Turtelizer 2" supports targets 1.6..5.5v, and is very fast..
Also, it's copywrite states you can use it free for both personal and commercial use.

Actually all NXP has to do is supply some config files for OpenOCD for the various devices, I would have thought that would be very simple:confused:
