With the recent update of LPCOpen 2.02 the information regarding future 2.xx versions for 17xx devices has disappeared. Does it really mean the 17xx family has been dropped?

A v2.xx version of LPCOpen for the LPC17xx/40xx families will be available soon, it hasn't been dropped..

Maybe not dropped but everybody's getting the feeling that the LPC17xx family is now a second class part...
Definitely not in the top positions of NXP's priority list and that's a shame.

Hello hparracho,

The LPC17xx family is not a second class part at all. We needed to break up the LPCOpen packages/distribution to be by part family - much easier for our users, easier to do releases/fixes by family, there are many benefits. We are rolling out the LPCOpen 2.xx releases as they are completed, and getting feedback/incorporating improvements along the way, rather than holding the releases until all families are updated to 2.xx. So some MCU families get released before others. We will update the LPCOpen 2.xx table with a more complete release schedule next week.

Just etching our new LPC176x boards and trying to find out how soon this soon may be.

Soon next week, soon after Christmas, soon next year?

Tomorrow this boards are ready and we would like to test LPCOpen this time, so is it reasonable to wait a few days for V2 of LPC176x?

I doubt that "to wait a few days for V2 of LPC176x?" is an option. LPCOpen 2.xx for LPC1311/13/42/43 and LPC1315/16/17/45/46/47 is scheduled to be released in 02/2014, but LPC17xx isn't even scheduled yet. Therefore I wouldn't expect any new LPCOpen for the LPC17xx/40xx at least for the next six months.

I'm using the latest version of the LPC175x_6x CMSIS driver library from the GIT server and I will for a long time. Far from perfect but usable and haven't given me any major headaches.

As an alternative mbed is pretty good. I've been playing with it lately and like it more and more each day.

I use LPC175x_6x_CMSIS_driver_library as well but it is very thin and seems to finally be a dead end since it isn't under development any more. But more important that we are using a handful of different ARM Cortex MCUs from NXP and having a similar software package for all of them seems reasonable.
