Unable to update KDS from 3.0.0 to 3.1.0

When attempting to install Kinetis Design Studio 3.1.0 the installer says that the operation cannot be completed and gives these details:

Cannot complete the install because one or more required items could not be found.

Software currently installed: GNU ARM C/C++ J-Link Debugging 3.2.1.201508190739 (ilg.gnuarmeclipse.debug.gdbjtag.jlink.feature.group 3.2.1.201508190739)

Missing requirement: GNU ARM C/C++ J-Link Debugging 3.2.1.201508190739 (ilg.gnuarmeclipse.debug.gdbjtag.jlink.feature.group 3.2.1.201508190739) requires 'ilg.gnuarmeclipse.debug.gdbjtag [2.2.1.201508190739]' but it could not be found

Does anyone know of a way to fix this?

Additionally, you might update the GNU ARM Eclipse plugins. Below is what I have (after updating to 3.1.0):

I have the same problem but with a different error message. This error is for Windows 7 install and update. I can update correctly 3.0 -> 3.1 under Linux.

An error occurred while uninstalling

session context was:(profile=DefaultProfile, phase=org.eclipse.equinox.internal.p2.engine.phases.Uninstall, operand=[R]com.somniumtech.kds.executable.win32.win32.x86 3.0.0 --> null, action=org.eclipse.equinox.internal.p2.touchpoint.natives.actions.CleanupzipAction).

Backup of file D:\nxp\KDS_3.0.0\eclipse\kinetis-design-studio.exe failed.

File that was copied to backup could not be deleted: D:\nxp\KDS_3.0.0\eclipse\kinetis-design-studio.exe

Thanks for looking into this!

I tried the first suggestion and there was no change - still got the same error.

After updating the GNU ARM Eclipse plugins - attempting to install the 3.1.0 update gave this error:

Is the best course of action at this point just uninstalling / reinstalling KDS?

Hi michals,

could it that you had another instance of KDS running? Make sure there is only one KDS running while you do the update.

Hi Allen,

yes, maybe doing this from a clean install is the easiest way. You should not need to uninstall it first: rename your original installation folder and then install it again. I recommend that you do a zip archive of the 'clean' installation folder so you can go easily back to it if something fails.

Erich,

That did the trick - I renamed the KDS_3.0.0 directory and then ran the installer. When the installer prompted for Modify, Repair, or Remove I selected Repair.

After the installation was complete I used the Install New Software function to first install the update to 3.1 and then installed updates for other items.
