FRDM-K22F not start (Green LED gone out)

Just got new FRDM-K22F for my first try with ARM

1. Followed the "Get Started in Leaflet", but it didn't respond to tilting.

Actually it seemed to be resetting periodically as windows kept opening new folder to the USB

Green LED is lit

2. Logged into MBED, saw the recommended new firmware.

0221_k20dx128_k22f_0x8000.bin (at: Firmware FRDM K22F - Handbook | Mbed )

3. Booted in Bootloader OK, copied new firmware bin above to the Bootloader USB

4. Green light went out. Doesn't connect as USB drive anymore.

Board appears dead?

- No LEDs when connect USB to "OpenSDA" port (J5?).

- Only red LED (D2?) when connect USB to J16

5. Tested my USB with my smartphone, USB port is OK (charges, Communicates)

Is the board dead, or is some procedure needed?

Its almost like a fuse popped?

What to do?

Hi Paul,

What the PC OS system you are using? win10?

If you are using the win10 system, the on board debugger will be corrupted , you can refer to this thread find the details and solutions.

Thank you for your information.

I was expecting to prove ARM could work for us with the low cost FRDM-K22F, but now I need to burn more time and 20x the money on a programmer to make it work?

Is there a development kit that would get me started on Win10 without so much effort and cost?

Win10 has been out long enough to be normal for new NXP users.

I see ST has an STLINK for $30, is there nothing like that for NXP?

Will the Segger J-Link EDU or Segger J-Link EDU Mini work with FRDM-K22F?

I saw that you can use one FRDM to program another, but no cables included?

I liked NXP parts and info better than STM, till I hit this bump.

The link on the leaflet with the kit www.nxp.com/FRDM-K22F

should have a warning about Win10 likely messing things up for older kits,

and how to bypass that before it happens (use Win7 to update first?).

there is the LPC-Link2 for $20, see LPC-Link2|NXP

If you need an enclosure, you might 3D print one: Custom 3D Printed Enclosure for NXP LPC-Link2 Debug Probes | MCU on Eclipse

And yes, the Segger J-Link EDU or EDU Mini works with the FRDM-K22F.

Hi Paul,

Erich is the expert in the opensda area. He is correct, you can use the LPC_LINK2 to download the new bootloader to your on board K20 chip.

About the information of win10 opensda problem , you can find it from this official website:

www.nxp.com/opensda

You need to use external JLINK to download the new bootloader code to your chip now.

If you have other FRDM board, I think you also can use the other FRDM board, and use the JLINK firmware, and associate with win7 to updated your broken board.
