IMXRT1050-EVKB AVB sound card

Hello,

I am currently trying to build an AVB sound card using the IMXRT1050-EVKB board with the genavb-apps-freertos-4_3_0 stack and examples.

I successfully built the demo application "avb_audio_app" following the instructions in the document: NXP GenAVB/TSN MCUXpresso User's Guide (GAVBMCUXUG Rev. 0, 01/2022)

The demo application is running on my evaluation board and I was able to configure the network settings (mac, ip, etc...) using the serial terminal, following the instructions in the document: GenAVB/TSN Stack FreeRTOS Evaluation User's Guide (GAVBFREVALUG Rev. 0, 01/2022)

I want to do the following connexion:

[Apple Mac mini M2] <---RJ45---> [AVB switch Netgear M4250] <---RJ45---> [IMXRT1050-EVKB] <---3.5mmJack---> [Speakers]

The eval board should be seen as an AVB sound card from the Mac mini, so that I can stream audio from the computer to the speakers. I don't need bidirectional stream, only from the computer to the board. Ideally the board should appear in the Network Device Browser window (see below):

I was hoping that the "avb_audio_app" demo was capable of such thing. I was not able to get the eval board discovered on the network as an "AVB peripherial" by the computer, so my first question is:

Can the "avb_audio_app" be seen on the network as an AVB device ?

If so, what configuration is required to achieve this behavior ?

And if not, what would I need to change in the demo application to achieve this behavior ?

Thanks so much for your interest in the NXP MIMXRT product.

Just check the details at first:

1. you follow the NXP doc, totally can make the MIMXRT1050-EVKB AVB works, right?

2. Now, you want:

This still not success, then you want to make sure, whether it is supported by the PC with the network+AVB, right?

I will find time to test it on my side, and check it internally.

Thank you for your help

1. Yes the MIMXRT1050-EVKB AVB demo works fine

2. I also tested the network successfully. I have an AVB sound card on the same switch and I can use it from the Mac

I have the following configuration on the AVB demo:
avb_app
mclock_role 1
avdecc
btb_mode 0
port0
gw_addr 192.168.0.1
hw_addr aa:bb:cc:dd:ee:ff
ip_addr 192.168.0.55
net_mask 255.255.255.0

I think the problem is that the AVB demo from NXP is using AVDECC in Fast-connect mode (section 8.2.2.1.1 of the IEEE 1722.1-2013 standard) and not in Controller-connect mode (section 8.2.2.1.3 of the IEEE 1722.1-2013 standard).

This may explain why the device is not detected by the Mac on the network.

What do you think ? Can it be the issue ? If so, how can we change this behavior by modifying the demo code ?

I also agree with you that the AVB demo may not match your Mac.

About the demo change, do you check the source code, you may need to find the Controller-connect mode (section 8.2.2.1.3 of the IEEE 1722.1-2013 standard) code, and add it.

BTW, please share me your used AVB related demo link, thanks.

I followed the instructions in the included PDF files (in the directory "doc") to compile the example named "avb_audio_app" and flash it on my evaluation board IMXRT1050-EVKB.

Do you know where in the demo code I should look to modify the AVDECC behavior ?
