HOW does HDMI confirm it's resolution???

well,i was learn HDMI recently,i can't understand the hdmi confirm it's resolution by edid information for i find if i set the resolution in the cmdline,the resolution will be set by the cmdline,then the edid seems no function to decide the hdmi resolution.

can anybody tell me the detail of edid/cmdline relationship? well,i read the fucking source code,but just still have some confuse.

You can use the fbset command, like

fbset -fb /dev/fb0 -xres 1440 -yres 540
