Note our recent activities to mainline the IPU and VPU und MX53 + MX6:

If you want to follow the activities, please monitor the linux-media mailing list for the VPU and linux-arm-kernel for IPU.

Encoding and decoding works nicely, the drivers are done as v4l2 mem2mem devices with userpointer support. However, there still is a lot of work to be done to make all this robust and add support for all features. All that work was done in industry projects, for customers who want to base their products on a reliable mainline kernel.
